Though his father taught him cello, viola and guitar and he was not a concert pianist, Brazil’s most famous composer wrote more than two hundred piano pieces. Villa-Lobos’s fascination with Brazilian folk music and the magic of childhood are driving forces behind these piano works. You’ll encounter his delicate music for dolls, a Prole Do Bebe No. 1 ; his children’s dances, Cirandas ; his Chopin tribute, Hommage a Chopin ; his Dancas Caracteristicas Africanas; Suite Floral, and Ciclo Brasileiro ; his fusion of Bach and traditional Brazilian music, Bachianas Brasileiras No. 4 ; his treasured Guia Pratico pieces; his most important solo piano piece, Rudepoema ; his Brazilian Indian ballet, Amazonas, and more, all performed by marvelously by Sonia Rubinsky!
